Our Next Play Group is August 16th

The next playgroup will be at Cindy's house!! I will send an email to all with the address...and please remember to pass it along if you know other people who are interested in coming.

Our next charity will be Packages of Hope (specifically the Uganda program). Please visit their website for their needs!! There are only a few things but they are still needed.

Our June Play Group

We had a great time at the Carpenter's house in June! We collected supplies for CAN, the child abuse network. Here is our group picture!!

Next Play Group is June 28th

Our next playgroup is the 28th of June at the Carpenter's house. 3:00 again! We have emailed out the address, but let us know if you don't have it!!

Our next charity will be the Child Abuse Network or CAN Visit the site and see the great work they do. Here is their donation wish list.

We donated to Mayan Families this last time. The kiddos had fun and so did the parents!!!

May Playgroup

For the May charity, we decided on Helping Mayan Families. They are doing a school supply drive for a service trip that will happen in June. Click here to find out what supplies they're asking for. If you are unfamiliar with Mayan Families, you can check out their main web site here. It is really a wonderful organization that does amazing work.

Our Next Play Date!!

The next date will be 4/25. We will keep the same time, 3:00!! Our charity for next month will be The Ronald McDonald House here in Tulsa. I spoke to them today regarding what types of donations they would need.

Donations needed right now:

Snacks for the Kitchen (the kitchen is a shared one for the families staying there)

Towels

All types of travel size toiletries to leave in the rooms

Money

There is also an extensive list on their website of other items they use

Donations

I wish I would have taken a picture of all the donations.  It was too much for the oversized Walmart shopping cart at Emergency Infant Services.  I went in at lunch and told them I had a bunch of donations.  The woman at the desk gave me a card to fill out with the name of the person donating (I put Tulsa Playgroup with a Purpose) and some info about the donations.  I filled it out while she went to get the cart for me.  When I came back in, 3 other employees of EIS came out to talk to me.  They were beyond thrilled with the donations and very interested in the playgroup.  I told them a little about us.  They were so excited.  I wish I could have taken Medina with me but I don't think her school would have liked it much.  Still, it was great to see the appreciation on all their faces.

Our First Playdate

We had our first get together today at Kerri's house. It went well!! We really didn't plan anything specific, the kiddos all just played and the parents talked!! We gathered a bunch of donations for our charity, Emergency Infant Services. Kerri will deliver them this week. More to come as we plan our next get together! We are so excited that our group is up and running.

Date change!!!

I just found out a few minutes ago that Medina's first soccer game is Saturday at 3:30.  

She has been looking forward to this for weeks.  

So...we're going to change the date to Sunday.  

It will still be at 3pm and it will be at Kerri's house (email me for directions).

What is a playgroup with a purpose?

Jocelyn and I have been throwing this playgroup idea around for awhile and we finally decided to take the plunge. Our friend Stacie started one in St. Louis...her dream is to see these groups all over. We are excited to help her with this!!

We believe that we can make a difference in the world. We focus on children's charities and causes and hope to instill a heart for giving in our own children.

So what do we want to do with this playgroup with a purpose?
Our goal is to have moms, dads and kids getting together each month for a playgroup, and to that group they will bring donations for whatever charity/cause we are collecting for that month.
We know we aren't going to be making a HUGE difference, but we believe that small steps lead to bigger things.

The group will have a few basic rules. These include keeping our charities non religious and non-political so no one feels uncomfortable due to different beliefs or faiths. The charity must benefit children. We plan to choose a local charity one month and then an international one the next...so on and so forth.

We'd love to see friends with children of all ages join in.
